Interview to Rachel Salmon

1. What is your full name?
Rachel Anne Salmon

2. Where are you from?
Rode Island

3. Where did you go to college? For how long? Do you plan to go back to school?
Boston University, for 4 years, NO!

4. What was your major in college and what kind of degree do you earn?
Her major was Sociology, BA.

5. Why did you choose that field?
Well she went to college to study chemistry because she loved chemistry in high school but then she realized that she didn't want to spend all her life in a lab. So her back up plan was that as being part of a Community Service club in high school, she liked the idea of helping other people and interacting with them, so she decided to go into Sociology.

6. What got you involved in this field of work? What inspired you to do it?
When she finished college she looked for a job in Los Angeles but there was no chance for monolingual person like her. So she moved to Madrid, Spain to learn Spanish. While living in Madrid she thought English, and she meet a film producer who offered her a job as part of the production. This job got her into film. And the internet took her to meet Michael Camerini and Shari Robertson (Producers of The Epidavros Project) who were working on an idea that film is very useful to create a debate and to teach.

7. What are some of the challenges you have faced working here?
The hardest challenge she has faced while working in this company for 6 years it's been to work with some people who is not as excited as she is about the series. And people who does not really care as much as she does about this great experience, which she thinks that you really have to be the "luckiest person" to be able to be part of the production of the series. Another hard part of the job is the post-production takes a lot of time and most of the times is doing things over and over again which sometimes can drive you nuts...

8. What is the best part of your job?
There are a lot of things that she loves from working in a company like this one. One of them is working with Michael and Shari and everyone else who is part of this, the other thing that she likes is learning form all the footage about democracy and how democracy works. The third best thing about this job is to get to learn about editing, because she didn't go to film school so she learns a lot about editing here with the editors. And the fourth thing that she likes is doing data bases, she has worked in almost all of them.

9. What is something you would like to change about your job?
She would change the Entertainment Industry. Because she believes that they don't realize how much does the media affects people and makes them think. She says that there should be spaces for long, well though, and interesting documentaries that would show people and make them think about important things like Democracy.

10. Did you work somewhere else before this job? Where? For how long? How was that similar/different?
She worked in Madrid, Spain for Carlos Saura (films director) for about 2 years. It was very different, she was a PA (Production Assistant.) She also worked in Saturday Night Life for a year.

11. What do you see as your future with this company?
She is in the process of finishing the series. She believes she is going to be working on it all the way until maybe next spring, but she has no idea what she is going to do after that.

12. Do you plan to open your own business one day?
No, because she just doesn't want to.
